Trust and Safety

Last updated: 2026-08-22

Want is a conduit that connects buyers who post what they want with sellers who respond. The Service does not verify users, inspect goods, or process the exchange of money for goods. That model puts safety squarely in the hands of the people using the Service, and it puts an obligation on Want to build tools that make safe use easy. This page describes what we do, what we ask you to do, and what to expect when something goes wrong.

1. Meet safely, pay safely

  1. Meet in a public place in daylight. Many police departments offer “safe exchange zones” in their parking lots.
  2. Tell someone where you are going and when to expect you back. Share your live location with a friend.
  3. Inspect before you pay. If the item is not what was described, walk away. No fee, penalty, or obligation applies to declining a transaction.
  4. Prefer cash in person or a same-bank instant transfer. Avoid wire transfers, cryptocurrency, and gift-card payments — these are the most common fraud vectors in classified-ad scams.
  5. Never share codes. No legitimate counterparty will ever ask for a verification code texted to your phone.

2. Reporting

Every Want, offer, message, and profile has a “Report” control. Reporting sends the content to our safety team along with the context needed to review it. You can also report directly:

  1. Trust and safety: safety@wantie.app
  2. Child-safety concerns: safety@wantie.app with the subject line beginning “CHILD SAFETY.” Content that appears to involve child exploitation is reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) as required by 18 U.S.C. 2258A.
  3. Imminent danger: contact local emergency services first, then email emergency@wantie.app.
  4. Intellectual-property complaints: see the DMCA policy.

3. Blocking

Every user has a “Block” control on any profile or thread. Blocking a user is silent to them. Once blocked, a user cannot message you, see your posts in search, or reply to your Wants. Blocking is independent of reporting; you can do either or both.

4. Moderation posture

  1. We review reports on a first-in, first-out basis, prioritized by severity. Our target is to review reports of prohibited content within twenty-four (24) hours.
  2. Actions available to our moderators include removing content, restricting features, suspending an account, and terminating an account.
  3. We remove content when it violates our Terms, our Prohibited Items policy, or our Community Guidelines. We do not rewrite user content; the choice is remove or leave.
  4. We log every moderation action with the time, the reason, the acting moderator, and the content affected.
  5. We terminate confirmed repeat infringers, confirmed fraudsters, and users who solicit or offer any item on the Prohibited Items list.

5. Automated safeguards

  1. Server-side keyword and pattern filters run before a Want is published, before an offer is sent, and before a message is delivered. Content that matches high-severity patterns is blocked or held for review.
  2. Categories and inputs are neutral by design. There are no dropdowns that solicit information about a person’s protected characteristics.
  3. Rate limits and behavioral signals help us detect spam, mass-messaging, and account takeovers.

6. Appeals

If you believe an enforcement action was made in error, reply to the notice or email appeals@wantie.app within thirty (30) days. Include your account handle, the content or action at issue, and the reason. We aim to respond within a reasonable time and to reverse actions taken in error.

7. Transparency

We intend to publish a short transparency summary at least once per year covering (a) the number of reports we received by category, (b) the number of items removed and accounts terminated, and (c) the number of legal-process requests we received and how they were handled. The first summary will publish after the Service has been live for a full calendar year.

8. What Want does not do

  1. Want does not verify user identity, background, or credentials.
  2. Want does not inspect, authenticate, or endorse any item.
  3. Want does not process payment for any transaction between users, does not hold funds in escrow, and does not offer refunds on transactions.
  4. Want does not offer “verified,” “trusted,” or similar badges implying vetting that we do not perform.

9. Contact

Safety questions and reports: safety@wantie.app. General contact: see the contact page.
